Many of you know that I have an absurd MP3 collection. I’ve lost count of how many albums I have. But it spans something just shy of 1 Terrabyte of space. I have always struggled with how to store this massive amount of data.
Until now I was using a 450mhz windows 2000 machine mounted with a bunch of internal IDE drives which were then shared across the network. I was never happy with this solution- speed, OS dependency, heat control issues, etc. I just recently invested in a new system- an 8-bay external firewire enclosure. This should help me to avoid many of these problems, of course a hefty price!
Take a look at what this leaning tower of hard-drives looks like: front, back, and side.
I’ll let you all know how this works out.
I just need to come up with a better web application so I can share all of this music easier with my friends. I currently use the windows distribution of Apache. Which is a bit cumbersome and limiting.
More to come. . .
