Tech & Me
You don’t know where you are going, until you know where you have been. So take a step back in time with me and discover my computer voyage.
How it all started. . .
I blame it all on my parents. Sometime in the early 80s they started me off with this little winner, the IBM PC Jr.

This little tan guy did wonders and even accepted cartridges to expand on its BASIC command wizardry. Using this “machine”, my family and I always had a blast printing out huge banners on our dot-matrix printer with Print Shop Deluxe.
In either ‘89 or ‘90 I I outgrew the PC Jr. and moved graciously onto the 386 (no, not 386MHz…more like a whopping 33MHz). My parents loved me, so they bought one of those computers that are delivered in a box that look like a cow- Gateway 2000s. That machine certainly was ready for the year 2000 and beyond…once we had that blazing new computer I was able to get online!
So of course, what do I decide to break open my piggy bank for- Internet In A Box. Egghead (whatever happened to them?!) had just what I needed- charging around $50-$100 for a nice little shrink-wrapped box crammed full of the latest surfing tools of the time, like Mosaic (which later became Netscape). Little did I know that all these tools were free if I fetched them myself.
After many days of configuring and adjusting I finally got online. I don’t know if it was worth all that work though. There wasn’t too much out there at this point, that I could find anyways. Mostly technical hubbub that a Middle Schooler could care less about.
Than I discovered the wonderful world of BBSs. My handle was probably:

More to come. . .
Current state of affairs. . .
Things have change a whole lot since then. The machines we play on have gotten leaner and meaner. And our internet connections are just blazing.
